Manila: The Social Housing Finance Corp. (SHFC) recently celebrated its 22nd anniversary by announcing the availability of approximately 17,000 housing units, as part of the government's Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino (4PH) Program.
According to Philippines News Agency, SHFC President and CEO Federico Laxa highlighted the agency's progress since its establishment in 2004 as an arm of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD). The agency has bolstered its Community Mortgage Program (CMP), a cornerstone initiative for the past 37 years. The Enhanced Community Mortgage Program (ECMP) now extends beyond land acquisition, focusing on the development of essential infrastructure like roads, drainage systems, and utilities.
In a recent interview, Laxa emphasized the SHFC's commitment to improving living conditions in communities such as the Miranda Compound in San Fernando, Pampanga, by addressing issues like flooding and inadequate infrastructure. This initiative aims to create safer and more livable environments.
During the DHSUD anniversary, attended by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., the expanded role of SHFC in the 4PH program was acknowledged, showcasing its efforts in delivering housing solutions across various project sites. The 17,000 housing units are spread nationwide, with notable projects in Davao City, San Fernando, Pampanga, Palawan, and Misamis Oriental.
The SHFC is also focusing on High Density Housing (HDH) projects for families in high-risk areas, partnering with the Department of Transportation for resettlement projects linked to major infrastructure developments. Laxa announced plans for a nationwide information campaign and open houses to educate potential beneficiaries on application processes and eligibility.
Emphasizing the transformative vision behind the housing initiatives, Laxa stated that regular inspections ensure projects meet community needs. The SHFC aims to deliver up to 20,000 units in the near future, with caravans and announcements set to engage aspiring homeowners.
