Manila: The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) is in the process of verifying reports that 19 individuals lost their lives due to the impact of Tropical Depressions Luis and Maymay, along with the southwest monsoon known as 'habagat.' Approximately 2.2 million people have been affected by these weather disturbances.

According to Philippines News Agency, OCD public information officer Diego Mariano communicated to reporters on Tuesday that out of the reported deaths under verification, 12 are in Benguet, four in Rizal, and three in Batangas. The OCD also documented 15 injuries, with 12 in Benguet and one each in Ilocos Sur, Rizal, and Cavite. Additionally, four individuals are reported missing, including three in Benguet and one in Batangas.

The affected population includes 646,676 families, comprising 2,270,862 individuals, residing across various regions such as Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Bicol, Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Calabarzon, Cordillera, the National Capital Region, and Mimaropa. An estimated 919 evacuation centers are currently providing shelter to about 26,174 families, totaling 94,997 people.

The inclement weather has resulted in the damage of 639 houses, with 45 being completely destroyed. The financial impact is significant, with damage to infrastructure estimated at PHP1.46 billion and damage to agriculture amounting to PHP135.33 million.
