2 drug suspects yield PHP1.5M worth of shabu in Naga buy-bust

LEGAZPI CITY: Two suspects were arrested while at least PHP1.5 million worth of illegal drugs were seized in anti-drug operation in Bicol Region, the Police Regional Office in Bicol (PRO-5) said Friday.

PRO-5 spokesperson Lt. Col Maria Luisa Calubaquib said suspects Jerson Nebria, 39, and Robert Luna, 29, were arrested Thursday at Zone 5, Sitio Langon, Barangay Cararayan, Naga City.

The suspects, both residents of the same barangay, were caught red-handed after selling 25 grams of suspected shabu in exchange for PHP75,000 to a cop posing as a buyer.

Police recovered a total of 220 grams of suspected shabu worth PHP1,496,000 from the two suspects, including drug paraphernalia, identification cards and a wallet.

The two are now facing drug charges.

Meanwhile, PRO-5 regional director Brig. Gen. Rudolf Dimas said he would soon tender his resignation in response to the call of Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benhur Abalos Jr. on police officials with ranks of full colonel to general to submit courtesy resignation.

“Like all good soldiers, we shall follow the lawful orders of our superiors. We rally behind the noble intention of the SILG to cleanse the Philippine National Police (PNP) of scalawags and corrupt officers,” Dimas said.

He said the call is both a challenge and an inspiration to do more, work harder and strive to perform even better in the campaign against illegal drugs.

“And we assure the public that they can continue to rely on their police officers to serve and protect the community even as we go through this trying period for the police organization,” he added.

The regional police chief vowed to do its share in cleansing the community of the presence of illicit drugs through the implementation of ‘Buhay ay Ingatan, Droga Ayawan’ (BIDA) program of DILG.

This program embarks on a whole-of-nation approach to address the problem of drug supply and demand in the country and help drug users and surrenderers through treatment and rehabilitation.
