Jolo: Two passenger vessels were damaged in an allision incident at the port of Jolo, Sulu amid inclement weather early Tuesday, the Philippine Coast Guard reported. The incident involved MV Maria Rebecca of Montenegro Shipping Lines and MV Antonia 1 of Aleson Shipping Lines, occurring at approximately 7:45 a.m.
According to Philippines News Agency, the Coast Guard Station - Western Sulu stated that rough sea conditions and strong swells led to the MV Maria Rebecca losing control while attempting to dock. The vessel's port beam inadvertently struck the starboard aft portion of the moored MV Antonia 1.
Both vessels were subsequently secured, and the Coast Guard provided necessary assistance. A preliminary assessment indicated no immediate safety threats, pollution, casualties, or injuries from the incident.
The Coast Guard Station - Western Sulu advised both ship captains to file marine protests for documentation and further investigation.
