The Department of Agriculture (DA), through its Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) program, has released PHP1.9 million poultry project livelihood assistance to two farmer-associations in Sibuco, Zamboanga del Norte.
In a statement Thursday, DA-Region 9 identified the recipients of the livelihood assistance as the Paniran Farmers Association and the Malayal SAAD Farmers Association, which have 30 and 32 members, respectively.
Recently, DA-9 said each association received 15 modules of 48 heads of layer chicken amounting to PHP1,000,590. Both associations also received 90 bags of feeds and three wheelbarrows and 300 egg trays.
“These inputs are given free and what is very important now is how to maximize these and put effort to manage this project well to benefit us,” Mayor Joel Ventura told the members of the associations.
DA-SAAD provincial coordinator Ronillo Dusaban underscored the “active participation of the farmers” in getting the SAAD livelihood support.
“You did not fail us and we did not fail you. We are also thankful for your response to welcome SAAD into your communities,” Dusaban told the recipients.
George Vallente, Zamboanga del Norte agricultural program coordinating officer, encouraged the two farmers’ associations to “have a strong relationship with each other so you will have one another to rely on whatever your journey may bring.”
Meanwhile, Wyzynskai Sioko, Malayal SAAD farmers’ association president, thanked DA-SAAD for the initiative of reaching out to the marginalized areas of the province.
