23 gun ban violators arrested in Caraga

At least 23 gun violators have been arrested for violation of the election gun ban since January this year, the Police Regional Office in the Caraga Region (PRO-13) said Monday.

“The arrests were made in the different municipalities in the region through the 74 fixed checkpoints established by PRO-13 and the Commission on Elections,” Brig. Gen. Romeo Caramat Jr, PRO-13 director, said in a statement.

Records from the Regional Election Monitoring and Action Center showed that from January 9 to May 2, six .45-caliber pistols and three .357-pistols were confiscated from illegal gun holders during checkpoint operations.

Two 9mm pistols, three .38 caliber pistols, one improvised shotgun, 10 bladed weapons, and 94 ammunition were also confiscated from the violators during law enforcement operations in the same period.

“The whole force of PRO-13 will intensify the implementation of the gun ban as the local and national elections near,” Caramat said.

He said PRO-13 and its partner agencies in the security sector have standing safety measures to ensure a peaceful and crime-free election in the region.
