Ilocos Region: A total of 24 children of police personnel in the Ilocos Region who have died or were incapacitated in the line of duty are benefiting from a scholarship grant this year. Of these beneficiaries, the newest scholars include one college student from Ilocos Sur and three from Pangasinan, which comprises two in elementary and one in junior high school.
According to Philippines News Agency, the remaining 20 are continuing recipients of renewed scholarship grants, as indicated by data provided by the National Police Commission (Napolcom). In a recent interview, Napolcom Pangasinan Provincial Officer, lawyer Phillip Raymund Rivera, elaborated that the scholarship grant for children of police personnel killed or permanently incapacitated while on duty is grounded in Republic Act No. 6963.
Rivera detailed the scholarship amounts, which vary according to educational level: PHP10,000 per school year for kindergarten, PHP18,000 per school year for elementary, PHP24,000 per school year for high school, PHP18,000 per semester for vocational courses, and PHP30,000 per semester for college. "The tuition, miscellaneous, books, and uniform, are covered as long as it is not beyond the budget limit. The uniform should be purchased from the school and not outside," Rivera stated in Filipino.
He clarified that while scholars are not required to maintain a specific grade, they must not fail any subject. For college scholars, however, the scholarship will be terminated after failing a subject twice. Rivera also mentioned that qualified beneficiaries may apply at the Napolcom regional office by submitting the necessary documents along with the official application form.
