24 PDLs in Palawan Jail Receive PhilHealth and ePhilID Cards

Palawan: A total of 24 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the Taytay District Jail received government-issued identification cards through the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology's (BJMP) Help Desk Program during a distribution activity on June 29.

According to Philippines News Agency, the distribution was facilitated by the BJMP Taytay District Jail under the supervision of District Jail Warden Jail Chief Inspector Gilbert Anza. It included 10 PhilHealth identification cards and 14 electronic Philippine Identification (ePhilID) cards for qualified PDLs. The initiative is designed to provide beneficiaries with valid government-issued identification, enabling them to access healthcare services, social protection programs, and other government transactions that support their welfare and rehabilitation.

BJMP Mimaropa Regional Information Officer JO3 Joefrie Anglo highlighted the importance of sustained collaboration among government agencies in making essential public services accessible to persons deprived of liberty. "The distribution of PhilHealth IDs and ePhilIDs reflects the continuing collaboration among government agencies to ensure that persons deprived of liberty are not left behind in accessing basic services," Anglo stated in a news release on Friday. He further noted that by helping them secure valid identification and healthcare coverage, the program strengthens support for their welfare, rehabilitation, and eventual reintegration into society.

Anglo emphasized that the BJMP's Help Desk Program serves as a bridge between PDLs and partner agencies by facilitating access to government-issued documents and services that support their overall well-being during custodial care. The bureau stated that the initiative is part of its ongoing efforts to integrate public service delivery into rehabilitation programs and to promote the successful reintegration of persons deprived of liberty into their communities after serving their sentences.
