Laoag city: A week-long trade fair participated in by 57 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Ilocos Norte generated around PHP800,000 in sales, highlighting their growing contribution to the province's local economy.

According to Philippines News Agency, the 2nd Produkto Ilocandia trade fair, held in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry at the Laoag City Hall grounds, runs from August 7 to 15. "This achievement is more than just a number-it represents the hard work, creativity, perseverance, and entrepreneurial spirit of our local MSMEs and producers," Gov. Roque and Manuela Ablan Foundation, Inc. noted in a statement, urging public support for exhibitors and producers.

The ongoing trade fair provides local entrepreneurs with a platform to showcase and sell their products directly to consumers while allowing participating businesses to expand their market reach and establish new customer connections. Featured items included locally made food products, handicrafts, processed agricultural products, fashion items, and other proudly Ilokano goods.

For participating MSMEs like Cathy Baided, president of the Cataban Water Hyacinth Weavers, the event is more than a sales opportunity. "The trade fair gives us valuable exposure, allowing us to receive feedback from customers, promote our crafts, and explore potential markets," she said.

The trade fair forms part of the government's ongoing efforts to strengthen MSMEs, promote local products, and create more opportunities for entrepreneurs. Increased sales during such events also contribute to livelihood generation and help circulate money within local communities.

Leah Mae Buenavides, trade industry development specialist of the DTI Ilocos Norte, said the event demonstrates the market potential of locally produced goods and underscores the importance of sustained government support for MSMEs through market linkage, product promotion, business development, and entrepreneurship programs. "We encourage more consumers to support various trade fairs conducted by the DTI and other agencies to sustain the livelihood of MSMEs, generating more employment and uplifting lives," she said.
