Pasay city: The Association of Firearms and Ammunition Dealers of the Philippines, Inc. (AFAD) is set to hold its 32nd Defense and Sporting Arms Show (DSAS) from July 22-26 at the SMX Convention Center in the Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City. In a news release, AFAD stated the event reaffirms its commitment to promoting responsible gun ownership, firearms education, and the growth of the shooting sports community in the Philippines.
According to Philippines News Agency, DSAS is recognized as one of the country's premier firearms and outdoor lifestyle exhibitions. It gathers leading firearms importers, manufacturers, distributors, retailers, and industry stakeholders, along with sports shooters, collectors, and outdoor enthusiasts. Attendees can expect a comprehensive showcase of locally manufactured and imported firearms, ammunition, optics, shooting accessories, tactical equipment, outdoor gear, and the latest innovations from major players in the firearms industry.
Senate President Pro Tempore Juan Miguel 'Migz' Zubiri is scheduled to grace the opening ceremony of the five-day event. AFAD president Aric Topacio emphasized that responsible firearm ownership is founded on education, discipline, and respect for the law. Topacio remarked, "The firearms industry is not simply about commerce. It is about cultivating a community of responsible, law-abiding firearm owners who understand that every firearm carries with it a serious obligation."
Topacio highlighted that recent incidents of criminal misuse of firearms should prompt the enforcement of existing laws against offenders rather than unfairly stigmatizing licensed, law-abiding firearm owners. He stated, "Criminal acts should be met with swift justice against those who commit them. Law-abiding firearm owners who undergo licensing, background checks, and comply with existing regulations should not be equated with criminals. Public policy is strongest when it targets criminal behavior while respecting the rights of responsible citizens."
AFAD supports evidence-based measures that improve accountability and public safety without placing unnecessary burdens on legitimate firearm owners, sports shooters, collectors, and enthusiasts who comply with Philippine firearms laws. The organization continues to work closely with the Philippine National Police-Firearms and Explosives Office (PNP-FEO), local government units, and other government agencies to promote proper licensing, firearm safety education, and compliance with existing regulations.
Topacio affirmed that the organization's longstanding partnership with regulators demonstrates that responsible firearm ownership and public safety are complementary objectives. He concluded, "Responsible gun ownership begins with respect for the law. We have consistently encouraged our members and the public to comply with licensing requirements, safety standards, and responsible handling practices."
The 32nd DSAS will also feature seminars, live demonstrations, product launches, and educational sessions on firearm safety, marksmanship, sports-shooting development, legal updates, and responsible ownership.
