CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: The Army’s 4th Infantry Division (ID) bestowed medals on two of its soldiers Thursday who were wounded in a recent clash with communist rebels.

In a statement, Maj. Gen. Wilbur Mamawag, 4ID commander, pinned the “Wounded Personnel Medal” to Privates Danclint Patindol and Dave Calsa of the Army’s 36th Infantry Battalion (IB) and 26IB, respectively, who are both confined at Camp Evangelista Station Hospital here.

They were taken to the hospital after a Nov. 30 clash with the remnants of the New People’s Army (NPA) at the borders of Caraga Northern Mindanao regions.

Mamawag lauded the “selfless dedication and patriotism of the two soldiers in securing the communities and protecting the people against the atrocities and deceptive recruitment of minors” by the NPA.

He assured the soldiers of financial assistance and quality health care.

The Wounded Personnel Medal is given to soldiers who have been injured while fighting the enemy or as a direct result of an enemy attack and those who have exemplified bravery, military professionalism and heroism in the performance of their mandate
