Caraga: Seventy local government units (LGUs) in the Caraga region, encompassing five provinces, six cities, and 59 municipalities, have been honored with the 2024 Seal of Good Financial Housekeeping (SGFH) Award. The announcement was made on Thursday, highlighting the commitment of these LGUs to maintaining high standards of accounting and auditing, as evidenced by receiving either an unqualified or qualified opinion from the Commission on Audit.
According to Philippines News Agency, the SGFH is a component of the broader Seal of Good Local Governance, which serves to recognize LGUs that adhere to rigorous financial standards. Surigao del Sur Governor Alexander Pimentel expressed pride in the province's inclusion, along with 15 of its municipalities and the cities of Tandag and Bislig. "Let us continue to work together for a more trusted and progressive Surigao del Sur," he stated.
The accolade was also awarded to the cities of Butuan, Surigao (Surigao del Norte), Bayugan (Agusan del Sur), and Cabadbaran (Agusan del Norte). Additionally, Surigao del Norte, with its 17 municipalities, Agusan del Sur with 13, Agusan del Norte with eight, and Dinagat Islands with six municipalities, were recognized for their efforts in maintaining fiscal responsibility.
Surigao del Norte Governor Robert Lyndon Barbers highlighted the importance of the award, saying, "The SGFH is a recognition of transparency and accountability in our governance and in ensuring that government funds are managed properly." This award reinforces the region's dedication to clean, transparent, and accountable governance practices.
