Metro Manila:A total of 70 police officers in Metro Manila are facing administrative charges as part of the National Capital Region Police Office's (NCRPO) ongoing efforts to cleanse its ranks of rogue personnel. This initiative is driven by zero-tolerance policies, according to NCRPO officer-in-charge Brig. Gen. Christopher Abrahano.
According to Philippines News Agency, since Brig. Gen. Abrahano assumed his position as the top cop in Metro Manila on August 23, 13 police personnel have been dismissed and 57 others suspended due to administrative cases. The 13 dismissed officers were involved in serious offenses, including Absence Without Official Leave, violations of the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act, the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act, and estafa.
The 57 suspended officers faced charges for offenses such as unlawful arrest, discharge of firearms, dishonesty, negligence, and other breaches of police regulations. In a news release, Abrahano highlighted that the internal cleansing campaign is aimed at maintaining the integrity and trustworthiness of police officers, emphasizing the importance of accountability and due process.
The NCRPO's jurisdiction includes the Manila Police District, Quezon City Police District, Northern Police District, Southern Police District, and Eastern Police District. Brig. Gen. Abrahano also cautioned officers against the unauthorized use of government resources, such as fuel and vehicles, for personal purposes. He instructed police districts to ensure that all official resources are used strictly for police duties and that every trip is properly authorized and documented.
