8 hurt as driver loses control of SUV in Makati

MANILAEight persons were hurt and a number of vehicles were damaged after the driver of a sports utility vehicle (SUV) lost control of her vehicle in Makati City Tuesday morning.

Makati police said the incident occurred around 8:15 a.m. along Jacinto St. in Barangay Pitogo, Makati City.

Angelita T. Cajuday, 62, of 32 A. Mabini St., Upper Plaza West Rembo was driving her Mitsubishi Montero (TOU-954) and traversing Jacinto St. when the vehicle suddenly accelerated and went out of control.

Video footage showed the SUV collide with four tricycles, three motorcycles and a black Toyota Vios before coming to a grinding halt.

Police have yet to identify the eight persons who sustained injuries in the incident.

Incidents known as "sudden unintended acceleration" involving the SUV has been the subject of an investigation by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). No such incidents have been reported in other countries.

The manufacturer has insisted that its vehicles are safe to use but has offered a free vehicle inspection for owners affected by the incident. (PNA)
