Manila: The nine-month-long asphalt and reblocking works along the northbound portion of President Elpidio Quirino Avenue in Manila commenced on Friday, as announced by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
According to Philippines News Agency, the DPWH - South Manila District Engineering Office released a travel advisory detailing the scope of the activities. This includes reblocking from Marcelino Street to Campillo Street and asphalt overlay along the northbound section of the major thoroughfare, covering the stretch from Marcelino Street to Quirino Bridge 1. The scheduled reblocking and asphalt activities are slated to continue until February 4, 2026.
The DPWH has planned the repair works to occur every weekend until the target completion date. This strategy is intended to minimize further disruption to traffic flow in the area, as the activities will necessitate partial lane closures. The department has advised motorists to anticipate possible traffic slowdowns and recommended the use of alternative routes during the repair works.
The initiative is part of the "Build Better More" program led by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and overseen by Secretary Manuel Bonoan. The program aims to provide safer and more resilient roadways in the region.
