Manila: House of Representatives Deputy Majority Leader Erwin Tulfo and ACT-CIS party-list on Wednesday donated 50 boxes, or 5,000 capsules, of Doxycycline that treats leptospirosis, to the Angat Buhay Foundation of former vice president Leni Robredo. The medicines are intended for distribution to victims of Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (international name Trami) in the Bicol region. In a statement, Tulfo said most of the calls they received in their office were problems regarding leptospirosis because of the residents' prolonged exposure to flood waters in many parts of the region. He said many parts of Camarines Sur are submerged in flood waters, particularly Naga City, and the medicine is to protect the affected residents against the dangerous bacterial infection. Earlier, the ACT-CIS and the Erwin Tulfo Action Center donated 2,000 sacks of rice and PHP1 million from their personal fund to Kristine-hit families. About 500 sacks of rice were also delivered to the Angat Buhay Foundation, apart from an other 500 sacks of rice sent to Iriga and other towns in Bicol. Tulfo also sent PHP50,000 cash for the typhoon victims in San Guillermo Parish in Talisay, Batangas. Meanwhile, he said they are focused on areas that could possibly be affected by Super Typhoon Leon (international name Kong-Rey) along its predicted route. Tulfo's Action Center and ACT-CIS Party-list Reps Edvic Yap and Jocelyn Tulfo committed that they would continue to help so long as there are people in need of assistance. 'Kaya tuloy lang ang monitoring natin para agad tayong makapagpadala ng mga ayuda sa mga nangangailangan nating mga kababayan (That's why we are continuously monitoring the situation to immediately send assistance to our countrymen),' he said.
