Manila: Adamson University defeated Arellano University, 25-21, 25-17, 25-19, on Thursday to advance in the second round of the 2025 Shakey's Super League (SSL) Unity Cup at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum in Malate, Manila.
According to Philippines News Agency, Joy Aseo finished with 12 points off eight attacks and four aces as the Lady Falcons notched their second straight win to join Far Eastern University (FEU) in the next round. "We were just patient with each other and worked as a team. Coach told us to do our best to win. Win or lose, it's okay, as long as we push our best," said Aseo, who took charge in the absence of Shaina Nitura.
Red Bascon contributed eight points while Abegail Segui and Frances Mordi added six points each for Adamson, the winner of the National Invitationals Cebu leg two months ago. Adamson will face the Invitationals Batangas leg champion FEU in the last day of the preliminary round on Friday.
Jazmine Palalon scored seven points while Jayde Dela Cruz had six points for Arellano, which now holds a 1-2 win-loss record.
Meanwhile, College of Saint Benilde survived Ateneo de Manila University, 18-25, 25-13, 25-23, 33-31, to sweep Pool D. Zamantha Nolasco led the four-time NCAA champion Lady Blazers with 19 points off 15 kills and four kill blocks, while Shahanna Lleses and Rhea Densing scored 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Ana Hermosura delivered 19 points, Zey Pacia had 17 points, and Faye Nisperos added 14 points for Ateneo. The Blue Eagles (1-1) must beat the San Sebastian College-Recoletos Lady Stags (0-2) on Friday to advance.
