Agno: The municipality of Agno in Pangasinan is set to unveil two new cave attractions to tourists within this year. Agno Mayor John Celeste announced the upcoming openings of Simmimbahan Cave in Barangay Tupa and Kimmalding Cave in Barangay Gayusan, highlighting their unique characteristics and cultural significance.
According to Philippines News Agency, a memorandum of agreement has been signed between the local government and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to facilitate the opening of these caves to the public, including the training of tour guides. Mayor Celeste noted that the necessary signages will be installed around and within the caves, and they aim to open them to visitors by November, following the rainy season. The accessibility of the attractions is ensured as the roads leading to them are already paved, with the cave entrances located just a few meters from the roadside.
In addition to promoting these new attractions, Mayor Celeste expressed the local government's intention to enhance tourism in the town through further developments. Plans are underway to implement an Integrated Comprehensive Plan for the renowned Umbrella Rocks Beach, alongside the Implementing Rules and Regulations of the Municipal Tourism Code of Agno. This plan includes the construction of a park and other facilities within the beach area, with necessary coordination for funding being sought from the district's representative.
The local government is also addressing concerns regarding the ownership of portions of the tourist spot by private individuals, in collaboration with the DENR and the Department of Public Works and Highways. Mayor Celeste emphasized that the comprehensive plan aims to offer tourists a range of scenic views, including the Balincaguing River, the West Philippine Sea, a prominent concrete cross, a nearby lighthouse, endangered monkey species, and striking rock formations.
Efforts are also being made to improve transportation links to Agno, with discussions ongoing with transport groups to introduce direct routes between Dagupan City and Agno. Currently, the only available route connects Agno to Alaminos City.
Agno is already celebrated for its white-sand Abagatanen Beach and various coves, in addition to the Umbrella Rocks, and these new developments are expected to further bolster its appeal as a tourist destination.
