Agusan del norte: The Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Agusan del Norte reported Tuesday it processed 17,553 applications for new voters during the 10-day registration period that started on Aug. 1 for the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE). Of the total number of applications processed, 6,617 are from Butuan City.
According to Philippines News Agency, the report added there were 8,315 male and 9,238 female applicants. Outside of Butuan City, the largest number of applications was logged in Buenavista town with 2,100, followed by Cabadbaran City with 1,486, and Jabonga with 1,143.
Meanwhile, in Surigao del Sur, the provincial Comelec office reported processing 19,957 voter applications as of Aug. 10, of which 9,769 are males and 10,188 are females. Of the new registrants, 16,361 are youths who intend to vote for the first time, while 3,596 are considered regular applications.
In Surigao del Norte, about 20,826 new applications are also being processed after the 10-day registration period. The Comelec-Surigao del Norte said this registration period was part of the agency's efforts to ensure inclusive and accessible electoral participation, especially among first-time voters and youth in the SK elections.
