AirAsia Philippines Urges Travelers to Heed Mpox Precautions Amid Rising Concerns

Manila: With the back-to-school season prompting increased travel, AirAsia Philippines has called on passengers to maintain precautionary measures against mpox during their journeys. "AirAsia Philippines is reminding all passengers to observe proper hygiene amid ongoing health precautions related to mpox," the airline stated, emphasizing the importance of vigilance.

According to Philippines News Agency, the airline has advised travelers to frequently wash their hands, practice proper coughing and sneezing etiquette, and use alcohol-based hand sanitizers, particularly after disembarking. This guidance comes as a preventive measure amidst health advisories issued by authorities.

On June 7, the Department of Health (DOH) urged the public to stay informed through its official social media channels. The DOH addressed and refuted circulating online misinformation about a lockdown due to mpox, clarifying that such a measure is unnecessary as the disease is "not airborne."

Further, the DOH confirmed that all mpox cases in the Philippines are of Clade 2, which is less fatal compared to the Clade 1B strain responsible for the 2024 outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Steve Dailisan, AirAsia's head of Communications, highlighted the significance of education-related travel, noting that 20 percent of the airline's market in 2024 comprises young travelers aged 2 to 24. "It is important to make journeys meaningful, especially when it concerns education. Any savings on travels can be used for other purposeful school-related requirements or plan for another trip," Dailisan remarked.

In line with this, AirAsia is offering a seat sale with one-way base fares starting at PHP208, available until June 15 for travel up to November 30, 2025. The promotion covers all domestic routes from Manila, aiming to provide affordable travel options for students and families.
