Aklan Vice Mayor Fatally Shot by Municipal Councilor

Ibajay: The vice mayor of the Municipality of Ibajay, Aklan, was tragically shot and killed on Friday morning by an incumbent municipal councilor. The sudden and shocking incident occurred as Vice Mayor Julio Estolloso, aged 50, was arriving at his office to begin his day's work.

According to Philippines News Agency, Ibajay Deputy Chief of Police, Lt. Melvin Cunanan, reported that Mihrel Senatin, 43, unexpectedly fired his gun at the vice mayor without any provocation. At the time of the incident, the suspect was in the process of having his ordinances recopied.

Lt. Cunanan noted that investigations are ongoing to uncover the true motive behind the shooting. Operatives from the Scene of the Crime Operations (SOCO) are actively processing the crime scene. Initial findings indicate that the suspect approached Vice Mayor Estolloso, questioned him about any potential grudge, and then suddenly drew his firearm to commit the act.

Authorities have found no evidence of animosity between the suspect and the victim. Lt. Cunanan stated that investigators remain puzzled regarding the potential motive, as Senatin has stayed silent while in custody at the Ibajay facility. Despite the lack of clarity, the police assure the public that this incident is considered an isolated case, and they are in the process of preparing murder charges against the suspect.
