Bali: Filipino tennis player Francis Casey Alcantara and Indonesian partner Christopher Rungkat were defeated by Japan's Kokoro Isomura and Yusuke Takahashi, 6-4, 6-1, in the quarterfinals of the Amman Mineral Men's World Tennis Championships in Bali, Indonesia.
According to Philippines News Agency, Isomura and Takahashi have progressed to the semifinals, where they will face fellow Japanese player Koki Matsuda and Ecuadorian Patricio Alvarado. Matsuda and Alvarado secured their place in the semifinals by overcoming the No. 1 seeded pair, Luca Castelnuovo from Switzerland and Japan's Kaichi Luchida, with a score of 7-6 (1), 5-7, 11-9.
In another quarterfinal match, wild card entrants Alexander Chang from the USA and Indonesia's Anthony Susanto advanced after defeating the fourth-seeded duo of Yanki Erel from Turkey and Karan Singh from India, 1-6, 6-4, 10-7. Chang and Susanto are set to challenge the second-seeded Japanese team of Yusuke Kusuhara and Shunsuke Nakagawa, who emerged victorious over Italian Pietro Mugelli and American Michael Zhu, 6-3, 6-3.
Alcantara is preparing for another M25 event at the Bali Beach Club scheduled for August 11 to 17. Previously, Alcantara and Korean partner Park Ui Sung were runners-up to Isomura and Taisei Ichikawa at the ATP Challenger 50 President's Cup in Astana, Kazakhstan.
Currently ranked No. 226 in the ATP men's doubles rankings, Alcantara is also gearing up for the Southeast Asia Games in Thailand from December 9 to 20. Alcantara previously claimed the men's doubles title with Fil-American Ruben Gonzales at the 2023 Cambodia SEA Games.
