Cavite: All is set for the National Age Group Aquathlon and Duathlon Championships this weekend at the Ayala Vermosa Sports Hub in Cavite. The aquathlon event is scheduled for March 1, followed by the duathlon the next day. According to Philippines News Agency, Merry Joy Trupa will aim for victory as Marion Kim Mangrobang will not participate in the tournament organized by Triathlon Philippines, headed by Tom Carrasco. Trupa recently secured a silver medal, while Mangrobang took bronze at the 2025 Asia Triathlon Duathlon Championships in Manama, Bahrain. Trupa completed the 5km run-30km bike-5km run in 1:29:16, closely trailing behind China's Ziqing Lu, who clocked in at 1:28:24. Mangrobang, a seasoned champion, finished with a time of 1:33:14. Mangrobang is celebrated for being a three-time triathlon champion and a back-to-back gold medalist in duathlon at the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games. She leads a formidable women's Elite, Under 23, and Junior squad that includes Raven Faith Alcoseba, Kira Ellis, Erika Nicole Burgos, Lady Samantha Jhunace Corpuz, and Katrina Salazar. The men's Elite and Under 23 team features athletes such as Andrew Kim Remolino, Matthew Justine Hermosa, Joshua Alexander Ramos, Iñaki Emil Lorbes, Juan Miguel Tayag, and Juan Francisco Baniqued. The Junior Elite roster comprises Dayshaun Karl Ramos, Darell Johnson Bada, Euan Arrow Ramos, and Peter Sancho del Rosario. John Leerams Chicano, a double-gold medalist at the SEA Games, leads the men's duathlon team, which includes Maynard Pecson, John Patrick Ciron, Irienold Reig Jr., and Franklin Yee. Joining Trupa on the women's team are Jena Valdez and Bea Marie Quiambao. Remolino and Burgos are the reigning champions of the National Age Group Aquathlon, having dominated the event at the same venue last year.
