Bi±an: All is set for the 10th edition of the STY (Sonny Ty) International Gymnastic Championships set at the Alonte Sports Arena in Bi±an, Laguna from Oct. 17 to 19. Indonesia, India, Japan, Singapore, Vietnam, and host Philippines are participating in the event organized by the Philippine Gymnastics and Athletics Academy (PGAA) S. TY Gymnastics and Sports Center, headed by Normita 'Boots' Dimanlig-Ty, a former national coach.
According to Philippines News Agency, clubs from all over the country have registered for the event. Normita Dimanlig-Ty, during the Tabloids Organization in Philippine Sports, Inc. (TOPS) 'Usapang Sports' at the PSC Conference Room at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Malate, Manila, emphasized the opportunity this tournament provides to young athletes, especially those from provinces, to test their skills against foreign rivals.
PGAA promising talent Avielle Caballes and her mother, Giselle, were also present in the weekly forum supported by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC). The 13-year-old Caballes had an impressive performance, topping the floor exercise, balance beam, vault, and Individual all-around events at the 2024 Batang Pinoy National Championships in Puerto Princesa, Palawan.
"I'm ready. I know that there are many good players from abroad, so I will do my best to win," said Caballes, a Grade 8 student from Muntinlupa National High School. The PGAA, which boasts more than 400 members, is actively contributing to the grassroots development program of the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines.
