Amazon’s £10 Billion Investment to Transform European Operations with 25,000 New Jobs and Advanced Warehouse Robots

London: Amazon is making one of its biggest new bets on Europe, announcing more than £10 billion in investments to expand and modernise its warehouse and delivery network across the continent over the coming years, according to Euronews.

According to Philippines News Agency, The announcement was made during Amazon's Delivering the Future event in London, highlighting the company's intent to further solidify its presence in Europe. This new wave of investments follows a record-breaking £60 billion investment across Europe in 2025, marking the largest annual investment by Amazon on the continent.

Part of the investment will focus on integrating robotics and automation within Amazon's fulfilment centres. The company plans to implement systems that will handle physically demanding tasks, allowing employees to concentrate on other responsibilities within the sites. A notable innovation is the updated version of Proteus, Amazon's autonomous warehouse robot, which will feature the ability to understand human language instructions from employees.

The investment will also target the expansion and enhancement of Amazon's fulfilment centres, which are crucial hubs where orders are processed, packed, and dispatched. These upgrades will introduce new technology and increase capacity across Amazon's European operations. Although specific locations for these enhancements were not disclosed, Amazon's existing network spans countries such as the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia.

Amazon's investment will also lead to the creation of 25,000 new fulfilment jobs across Europe in the coming years. Additionally, the company announced a $1 billion (£860 million) fund dedicated to worker training by 2030, as part of a broader $2.5 billion global skills expansion initiative. This programme will enable employees to gain skills in areas like cybersecurity, software development, logistics, renewable energy, and mechatronics, with availability in several European countries, including the UK.

These efforts underscore the magnitude of Amazon's growing footprint in Europe. The company claims to support over 1.5 million jobs across the continent, including 230,000 direct Amazon employees, over 400,000 extended workforce members, including contractors and seasonal workers, and more than 600,000 jobs connected to 200,000 European small businesses and entrepreneurs selling through Amazon.
