American Linked to $2-B Healthcare Scam Arrested in Pasig City

Kazan: The Bureau of Immigration (BI) on Saturday reported the arrest of an American national tagged as a high-priority target by the United States' Federal Bureau of Investigation. The BI identified the foreigner as Herbert Leon Kimble, 60, who was arrested in a commercial area in Pasig City by Fugitive Search Unit agents, together with government intelligence officers, on Thursday.

According to Philippines News Agency, the American was the subject of a federal arrest warrant issued by the US District Court in South Carolina for allegedly orchestrating a healthcare scheme that defrauded government-funded healthcare programs of more than USD2 billion. Authorities said the scheme involved the fraudulent marketing and distribution of unnecessary orthopedic braces billed to Medicare.

Kimble will be held at the BI's warden facility in Taguig City, pending deportation proceedings.
