Angeles city: Cyclists in Angeles City, Pampanga now have access to 11 kilometers of bike lanes as part of the Department of Transportation's (DOTr) push for active transportation in the country.

According to Philippines News Agency, in a media interview during the inspection of the bike lanes in Angeles City on Wednesday, DOTr Acting Secretary Giovanni 'Banoy' Lopez said the project is part of the agency's expansion of active transport facilities in the country. The project aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to construct more bike lanes, walkways, and road space for public transport that are both inclusive and mobility-oriented.

The expanded bike lane network in Angeles City is a Class 2 cycleway delineated with pavement markings, flexible bollards, and rubber delineators. These new bike lanes are located along McArthur Highway, from San Jacinto Rotunda to J. Valdez Street, and along FilAm Friendship Highway, from Ponsettia Avenue to Don Juico Avenue.

Additionally, the DOTr is coordinating with the Land Transportation Office, the Department of Public Works and Highways, and the local government of Angeles City for the deployment of more traffic enforcers and the implementation of speed limits. Lopez emphasized that these measures will enhance cyclist safety, allowing them to ride without constantly looking over their shoulders.

During the inspection, Pampanga (1st District) Rep. Carmelo 'Pogi' Lazatin expressed gratitude to the DOTr for expanding active transport facilities in Angeles City. He highlighted that these projects will encourage more Pampangue±os to bike or walk, noting that due to rising gas prices, many workers have switched to cycling.

As of the first quarter of 2026, the DOTr has built a total of 1,100 kilometers of bike lanes nationwide. The agency plans to construct around 2,400 kilometers of bike lane networks across the Philippines by 2028.
