Antique±os Warned Against Drinking Contaminated Water from Deep Wells

Antique: Antique's Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) is cautioning residents about the dangers of consuming contaminated water from deep wells, which could lead to diarrhea and other water-borne diseases. Dr. Leoncio Abiera Jr., Provincial Health Officer 1, highlighted in a recent press conference that extreme heat is causing deep wells to dry up, potentially contaminating the water from the bottom. He advised the public to ensure that water from these sources is boiled before consumption.

According to Philippines News Agency, local water districts have been instructed to chlorinate the water they supply to households. This precaution is necessary as the streams supplying water to pumping stations are also drying up. Dr. Abiera mentioned that one case of diarrhea was reported last month, underscoring the urgency of these warnings.

Dr. Jamie Phill Duldoco-Bi±as, an IPHO Medical Specialist, added that the extreme heat poses additional health risks, including heat stroke, hyperthermia, and sunburn. She advised residents to avoid sun exposure between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. and to maintain hydration. Ventilation in homes is also recommended, with windows kept open to allow air circulation.

In related health initiatives, Dr. Abiera announced an upcoming surgical mission outreach organized by the IPHO in collaboration with the World Surgical Foundation Philippines, Inc., and the Philippine College of Surgeons. Scheduled for April 21-24, the mission will take place at the Angel Salazar Memorial General Hospital in San Jose de Buenavista.
