SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA: The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) has informed the Antique provincial board that the expansion of the province’s capital town port will be a priority project next year.
The provincial board tackled on its regular session on Monday a letter from PPA Assistant General Manager for Engineering Carlito Castillo informing that the expansion and rehabilitation of the San Jose port for cruise and cargo terminal operations project is included in their proposed priority list of infrastructure for 2023.
“The proposed project involves the extension of the wharf and widening of apron,” Castillo’s letter said.
He sent the letter in response to the resolution of the provincial board requesting for the expansion and rehabilitation of the San Jose port for cruise and cargo terminal operations.
Castillo said a detailed engineering is now being done by the PPA for the project.
Board member Rony Molina, who sponsored a resolution on Sept. 1, said shipping companies that used to operate inter-island cruise ships and cargoes stopped their operations because of siltation that made it difficult for them to dock.
To make the port operational for cruise and cargo vessels, he said there is a need to rehabilitate its seawalls or breakers and address the frequent siltation of soil.
