Antique: The Antique Provincial Board has unanimously approved the municipal ordinance of the province's capital town promoting economic empowerment for persons with disability (PWDs) during their Monday regular session.

According to Philippines News Agency, Ordinance 2026-11, also known as An Ordinance Establishing and Promoting Livelihood Program for PWDs in San Jose de Buenavista, aims to promote the rights of PWDs to equal opportunities, self-development, and full participation in society. This initiative is in line with Republic Act 7277, also known as the Magna Carta for PWD.

The ordinance mandates that the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will provide PWDs with skills training, livelihood opportunities, and other capacity enhancements to facilitate their employment.

Implementation of the ordinance will be managed by the San Jose de Buenavista local government unit through its Provincial Disability Affairs Office. This office will be responsible for matching the skills of PWDs with suitable business establishments or other employers within the municipality.

Board Member Zoilo Bernardo Tubianosa, representing the committee on foreign relations, labor, and employment, reported that the ordinance could enhance the capabilities, skills, and talents of PWDs. He noted that over 2,000 PWDs from San Jose de Buenavista stand to benefit from the implementation of the ordinance.

The Provincial Board immediately approved the ordinance, signaling strong support for the empowerment of PWDs in the region.
