Antique Provincial Board to Investigate Delayed Turnover of Legislative Building

Antique: The Antique provincial board will investigate the delayed turnover of the Legislative Building despite its inauguration on Jan. 28, 2021.

According to Philippines News Agency, the local legislature approved a resolution sponsored by Board Member Joseph Eugene Alojipan on Monday, calling for an investigation of the building funded through a PHP50 million budget from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Alojipan expressed concerns in a follow-up interview on Tuesday, stating, "The Legislative Building seems to have a cancer that looks good from the outside, but has many decays on the inside." He highlighted that the building requires repair and retrofitting, suffers from leaks during rainy weather, has a non-functional elevator, and features office doors that lack sturdiness.

He also noted that some comfort rooms in the building are closed due to the absence of water for flushing. The provincial board has sent invitations this week, expecting the Provincial Planning and Development Office and the DPWH to attend their next session.

Alojipan emphasized the need for an investigation since the DPWH did not comply with the previous board members' request to address the building's issues before their term concluded.
