Maguindanao sur: Military authorities and the Maguindanao del Sur provincial government have successfully facilitated the resolution of a prolonged clan feud between former town mayor Edris Sindatuk and Ustadz Wahid Tundok, a commander in the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) 118th Base Command.
According to Philippines News Agency, the settlement program took place on Sunday in Datu Saudi Ampatuan town, marking the end of an eight-year conflict that resulted in loss of life and displacement of civilians. The reconciliation was led by Maguindanao Governor Datu Ali Midtimbang and Brig. Gen. Edgar Catu, commander of the Army's 601st Infantry Brigade. They played a vital role in bringing Sindatuk and Tundok to the negotiating table to resolve a feud that began in 2017 due to land disputes and personal grudges.
Catu highlighted the significance of the agreement, stating, "This settlement is not only a victory for the two sides, but a victory as well for thousands of civilians who have suffered heavily because of your hostilities." Governor Midtimbang also emphasized the ongoing efforts of the Army in assisting the local government unit (LGU) to resolve conflicts among families through diplomatic means.
To formalize the settlement, the former adversaries took an oath before the Holy Qur'an, pledging to abstain from violence in future disputes.
