KUALA LUMPUR, The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) has been appointed as the official media and coordinator of the International Media Centre for the 2025 ASEAN Summit, announced Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil. Through a post on Facebook, Fahmi said Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) was appointed as the official broadcaster. "As ASEAN Chairman, Malaysia will definitely be the focus of the region in particular and the world in general. "God willing, the chairmanship this time will also open various great economic opportunities for the people," he said. According to Fahmi, he and his Cabinet colleagues today attended the ASEAN-Malaysia 2025 Special Chairmanship Meeting chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at Parliament Building. Laos officially handed over the ASEAN Chairmanship to Malaysia at the Closing Ceremony of the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits which took place together with related Summits and the ASEAN Chairmanship Handover Ceremony in Vientiane. At the ceremony, the Prime Minister received the gavel of the ASEAN Chairmanship from Laos Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone as a symbolic handover of the post. Anwar also introduced the logo and theme for Malaysia's 2025 ASEAN Chairmanship: 'Inclusivity and Sustainability' at the event. Malaysia commences duties as ASEAN Chairman officially on Jan 1, 2025.
