Asphalt Overlay Repair on Panguil Bay Bridge Successfully Completed.

Panguil Bay: The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced on Tuesday that the repair of the asphalt overlay on the Panguil Bay Bridge in Mindanao has been successfully completed. The completion of the repair work marks a significant development for the 3.17-kilometer bridge, which is the longest in the region. According to Philippines News Agency, DPWH Senior Undersecretary Emil Sadain stated in a message that the repair, which was necessitated by damage from overloaded vehicles, was finished at 5:00 pm on Monday. Sadain further mentioned that the repaired section of the bridge was reopened to motorists later that evening, with traffic resuming normal operations at 9:00 pm. The emergency repair work, which commenced on December 1, focused on the Tangub City to Tubod direction. It specifically addressed the defective asphalt pavement found in certain sections of the bridge. Despite the damage, the DPWH previously clarified that the structural integrity of the bridge remained unaffected. Acco rding to an assessment conducted by DPWH and the project consultant Yooshin-Pyunghwa-Kyongho JV, the defects were attributed to trucks exceeding the bridge's 30-ton design capacity. In response, the DPWH has instructed the contractor to develop and submit a comprehensive repair plan. This plan will incorporate a revised asphalt mix design and waterproofing measures to ensure the long-term quality of the asphalt pavement. The Panguil Bay Bridge, which connects Tangub City in Misamis Occidental and Tubod in Lanao del Norte, was originally opened on September 27. The recent repair efforts underscore the DPWH's commitment to maintaining the bridge's functionality and safety for all motorists.
