Sagay city: At least 10 people lost their lives and dozens more were injured when an explosion followed by a fire devastated a bar in the Swiss ski resort town of Crans-Montana on New Year's Eve, police reported on Thursday.

According to Philippines News Agency, Swiss police informed Sky News that the death toll has reached at least 10, with around 10 others injured, several of them seriously. Authorities have clarified that the incident is not being considered terror-related.

The explosion occurred at approximately 1:30 am local time at Le Constellation Bar and Lounge, a two-story establishment that was hosting over 100 patrons at the time, as per police officials cited by Swiss outlet Blick. The cause of the explosion remains undetermined, the outlet mentioned, quoting a doctor who stated that dozens were injured.

Cantonal and municipal police, along with firefighters and emergency medical teams, were dispatched to the scene, with several helicopters aiding in the rescue operations. Efforts to respond to the emergency are still underway. Police have sealed off the area completely and imposed a no-fly zone to aid the rescue efforts.

A doctor with the Swiss air ambulance and rescue service informed national broadcaster RTS that nearby hospitals are overwhelmed with burn victims. Authorities have established a helpline for families seeking information about individuals who were in the Valais resort overnight.

Meanwhile, unconfirmed reports circulating on social media suggest that the fire might have been ignited by pyrotechnic devices used during a concert at the venue. However, police have not verified these claims.
