Manila: The Department of Justice (DOJ) announced that the men's basketball team coaching staff of Ateneo has been placed under an immigration lookout bulletin order (ILBO) after the tragic drowning of student-players Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili. The incident occurred during a team-building event in Dipaculalo, Aurora on June 8.
According to Philippines News Agency, DOJ Secretary Frederick Vida stated in a press briefing that the ILBO has been issued against resigned head coach Thomas Anthony 'Tab' Baldwin, former team manager Christopher Quimpo, and assistant coaches Reynaldo Jacinto Jr., Dean Casta±o, and Sandro Soriano. Vida emphasized that the ILBO serves as a monitoring mechanism to alert authorities if the individuals attempt to travel abroad while the investigation is ongoing.
Vida clarified that the ILBO does not restrict travel or imply any liability, as the investigation is still in progress. He urged the public to allow law enforcement agencies to conduct their work without speculation while evidence is being gathered and assessed.
Both Baldwin, who has been Ateneo's coach since 2016, and Quimpo have resigned amid the investigations into the deaths of Baterbonia and Adili.
