MANILA: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has declared August 15, 2024 a special non-working day in the province of Bulacan in celebration of its founding anniversary. By the authority of the President, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin signed Proclamation No. 625 on July 5. A copy of the proclamation was posted on the Official Gazette website on Monday. Marcos issued the proclamation to give the people of Bulacan the 'full opportunity to enjoy the celebration' of their province's foundation day. Bulacan was established on August 15, 1578. It is steadily becoming industrialized owing to its proximity to Metro Manila. Likewise, it holds historical significance as it is home to the first Philippine Republic, also known as the Malolos Republic, which was proclaimed in 1899 at the Barasoain Church in Malolos City, the capital of Bulacan.
