Manila: Mayor Greg Gasataya announced that this urbanized city will house the largest Philippine Science High School (PSHS) campus in the nation. The PSHS System has confirmed Bacolod City as the site for this new campus, which will be the biggest in the Philippines, according to the mayor's statement.

According to Philippines News Agency, the campus is set to rise in Barangay Granada, with a groundbreaking scheduled for November. Operations are expected to commence in July 2027. The PSHS Bacolod City campus is designed to accommodate up to 720 students and is anticipated to welcome its first batch of 120 Grade 7 students in the School Year 2027-2028.

Mayor Gasataya received the board resolution approving the campus site from PSHS System Executive Director Ronnalee Orteza during a meeting with officials from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) - PSHS System at the Bacolod City Government Center. Orteza stated that this will complete the 17 campuses mandated across the country and emphasized that the Bacolod City campus will exceed the size of the current largest campus in Quezon City.

The DOST-PSHS System plans to conduct a school-to-school information campaign to encourage Grade 6 pupils in the Negros Island Region to apply for the PSHS National Competitive Examination on January 30, 2027. Enrolled students will benefit from full government scholarships, which include free tuition, textbooks, monthly stipends, and other educational benefits.

Republic Act 12310, enacted in October last year, mandates establishing at least two PSHS campuses in each administrative region. This new law is considered a significant step in the reform of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education in the Philippines.

Currently, the DOST-PSHS System operates 16 campuses across the country, with three located in the Visayas region-in Iloilo City in Western Visayas, Argao in Cebu in Central Visayas, and Palo in Leyte in Eastern Visayas.
