Baguio Hotel and Restaurant Group Reports Gradual Increase in Tourist Arrivals

Baguio: Tourist arrivals in the summer capital are beginning to increase as fuel prices decline, the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Baguio (HRAB) announced on Tuesday.

According to Philippines News Agency, HRAB spokesperson Andrew Pinero noted in an interview that the current tourist figures are surpassing those of previous months. Pinero, who also serves as the member and client relations officer of Baguio Country Club, highlighted a significant improvement compared to Holy Week when the city experienced a noticeable absence of anticipated tourists.

City accommodation establishments are reporting a 40 percent occupancy rate on weekdays, significantly lower than the typical 60 percent. However, occupancy rates surge to 80 percent to 90 percent on weekends. Pinero expressed optimism, stating, "Those figures are already good. We are confident that this will continue to have better numbers in the coming months."

The resurgence in confidence regarding hotel bookings is attributed to the numerous conferences, events, and weddings taking place in the city. Pinero mentioned that the increase in weekend visitors suggests that people are adapting to fluctuating fuel prices, and even local residents are using their vehicles more frequently.

Pinero also noted that club members are now more willing to visit the city and are eager to book short stays. He attributed this renewed tourist confidence to the reliable fuel availability in gasoline stations both en route to and within the city, a stark contrast to previous months when tourists were hesitant to travel due to fuel supply uncertainties.

Additionally, Baguio's cool weather continues to draw tourists seeking relief from the heat in Metro Manila and other provinces.
