Ballet School Planned for Ilocos Norte to Nurture Young Dancers

Ilocos Norte: A ballet school is expected to rise in the province of Ilocos Norte to help develop and inspire a new breed of dancers. This comes after 20 students of the Wilbur Go Elementary School in Currimao, Ilocos Norte participated in a "ballet brigade," an outreach program of Ballet Philippines, the country's leading professional classical and contemporary dance institution.

According to Philippines News Agency, Ranz Damian, marketing associate of Ballet Philippines, stated in a media interview that as part of their corporate social responsibility, they are reaching out to more kids in underserved communities to make ballet accessible to everyone. "Ballet has been a part of our culture. It is a tool to communicate our culture," Damian said.

Damian expressed hope that by promoting ballet in Ilocos Norte, more Ilocano children will discover the power of dance for their development. "This is our way of giving back to the community," he said.

After seeing potential in the "ballet brigade" participants, Carrie Domingo, chief operating officer of Ballet Philippines, mentioned plans to establish a ballet school at Sitio Remedios in Currimao town to hone more local talents. She expressed gratitude to Dr. Joven Cuanang, owner of Sitio Remedios Heritage Village and one of the board of trustees of Ballet Philippines, for inviting them to Currimao to conduct the outreach activity.
