Manila: Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM): Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua convened a special cabinet meeting to assess the extent of damage and effects of Typhoon Inday in the region.
According to Philippines News Agency, the meeting highlighted the importance of local government executives being the first responders in emergencies. Macacua assured local authorities of the BARMM government's readiness to provide reinforcement operations when needed. The meeting took place at the BARMM government center, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.
The Bangsamoro Rapid Emergency Action on Disaster Incidence (READi) reported that, as of 10 a.m., the affected municipalities include Parang in Maguindanao del Norte; Guindulungan, Talayan, Datu Saudi Ampatuan, Ampatuan, and Datu Hoffer Ampatuan, all in Maguindanao del Sur; and Bongao in Tawi-Tawi. Macacua noted that approximately 950 families have been affected by the inclement weather, with no fatalities reported as of 9 a.m. Thursday.
Local mayors reported the evacuation of 70 individuals in Maguindanao del Norte, with several major roads in Datu Odin Sinsuat, Guindulungan, and Talayan rendered impassable due to flooding and other storm-related impacts. As a precaution, classes have been suspended across the provinces of Maguindanao del Norte, Maguindanao del Sur, parts of the Special Geographic Area, and Cotabato City.
On orders from Macacua, all regional government agencies are on high alert to respond should the situation worsen. He also instructed the immediate availability of prepositioned relief goods and hygiene kits for potentially affected communities.
According to Bangsamoro READi Director Mohammad Farzieh Abutazil, it is crucial for the public to understand that El Ni±o not only causes drought but also contributes to extreme weather and other climate-related hazards.
