Manila: The Department of Agriculture (DA) announced on Thursday that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s PHP20-per-kg. rice program, known as 'Benteng Bigas Meron (BBM) Na,' is now accessible in all 82 provinces following the completion of its nationwide rollout.
According to Philippines News Agency, the program's reach was fully extended after its launch in Sultan Kudarat, successfully bringing affordable rice to geographically challenged areas with assistance from the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). Agriculture Assistant Secretary Genevieve Guevarra emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts among government agencies in achieving this milestone.
The BBM Na initiative in BARMM covered areas including Barira, Buldon, Matanog, Sultan Kudarat, and Sultan Mastura. Guevarra highlighted that the program's expansion signifies its commitment to inclusivity, aiming to support and uplift every Filipino by enhancing local production and ensuring equitable progress.
Currently, 429 locations across the nation offer the PHP20-per-kg. rice along with other agricultural products. The DA's goal is to reach 15 million households by 2026, providing benefits to various groups such as teachers, non-teaching staff, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, solo parents, 4Ps beneficiaries, indigenous peoples, low-income earners, farmers, fisherfolk, transport workers, and participants in the DSWD's Walang Gutom program.
Looking ahead, the DA intends to expand its online registry to include delivery riders, drivers, bus conductors, and security personnel, further broadening the program's impact and reach.
