Bells to Ring vs. Corruption at Novaliches Cathedral

Quezon: Bells at the Cathedral Shrine and Parish of the Good Shepherd in Quezon City will ring on Friday evening. Religious and civil society organizations will hold their weekly White Friday Protest against massive corruption involving infrastructure projects, which began last week.

According to Philippines News Agency, in a social media post, the Novaliches Cathedral asked the Catholic faithful to participate in the activity dubbed "Kalembang Kontra Korapsyon" of the Trillion Peso March Movement, starting 6 p.m. on Oct. 17. "Come join us in fighting corruption and graft. Let's follow God's will and fight corruption!" the church said in its post.

The public has been urged to wear white shirts or ribbons and to bring candles, placards with appropriate messages, and noisemakers. "This is a sign of solidarity in the fight against corruption and graft in our country," the Novaliches Cathedral said.

The program will begin with a Holy Mass, followed by singing and the delivery of messages at 7 pm. The gathering is set to end with candle lighting, bell ringing, and a noise barrage at 8 p.m.

The White Friday Protest was first held at the EDSA Shrine on Oct. 10. Other parishes and communities also began holding their noise barrage and candle lighting ceremonies in Metro Manila, Cebu, Bacolod, and other regions across the country.
