Antipolo: Lorenzo Juan 'LJ' Sumulong III has backed out from the special polls to represent the Second District of Antipolo at the House of Representatives (HOR). In a social media post, the congressional aspirant from the Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC) has decided to withdraw his candidacy for the March 14 special polls.

According to Philippines News Agency, Sumulong announced his decision not to pursue his candidacy through a Facebook post, addressing his fellow countrymen in the Second District of Antipolo. "To my fellow countrymen in the Second District of Antipolo. I am announcing my decision not to pursue my candidacy as Representative of the Second District of Antipolo in the coming election," he stated.

Sumulong explained that his withdrawal comes after consultations with his party, the Nationalist People's Coalition. He emphasized that his decision is centered on unity, order, and continuous service to the Second District. Despite stepping back from the congressional race, Sumulong reassured his commitment to serving as a member of the City Council. He aims to focus on enacting ordinances, implementing programs, and advancing advocacies related to health, education, livelihood, order, social services, and creating an inclusive society.

Furthermore, Sumulong highlighted his dedication to remaining vigilant against corruption and promoting good governance. He affirmed that his decision reinforces his belief that leadership should be grounded in principle rather than position.

With Sumulong's withdrawal, only six candidates remain in the race to represent the Second District of Antipolo: Dandin Infante, Reden Llama, Maria Trinidad Cafirma, Philip Conrad Acop, Nathaniel Lobigas, and Irvin Paulo Tapales.
