Misamis Oriental: The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) is launching sustainable projects in the second half of 2025 under the Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) Program Phase 2 in Misamis Oriental province. The initiative aims to promote growth and development in the province's fisheries sector.
According to Philippines News Agency, Arlene Novo, the provincial SAAD focal person, stated that these sustainable initiatives will collaborate with the Provincial Program Management Support Office (PPMSO). The focus will be on promoting inclusive growth and ensuring that the fisheries sector in Misamis Oriental benefits from community-driven interventions. Novo emphasized the importance of creating a plan that supports the ongoing efforts to benefit local fisherfolk.
Key projects under the SAAD initiative include the enhancement of skills for municipal agriculturists, fishery extension workers, and representatives of local fisherfolk associations. These projects aim to strengthen the capacity of local stakeholders in the fisheries sector.
Stakeholders have also developed the 2025 Project Sustainability Plan. This plan outlines strategies to maintain and expand the progress achieved in the fisheries sector, ensuring long-term benefits for the community.
