Bacolod: The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) has emphasized the urgent need for enhanced fire prevention strategies due to the increasing number of grass fires in Bacolod, a highly urbanized city.
According to Philippines News Agency, 88 grass fire incidents have been reported in April alone. BFP-Bacolod City fire marshal Supt. Jenny Masip released a statement urging landowners and developers to clear their properties of tall grasses and maintain them to mitigate the risk of grass fires.
The BFP-Bacolod report highlighted the significant rise in grass fire incidents, prompting discussions on reinforcing fire prevention strategies, particularly in fire-prone and open areas. The report also stressed the necessity for stronger community awareness and enforcement measures.
During a City Management Coordinating Committee meeting, convened by the Department of the Interior and Local Government-Bacolod City, BFP-Bacolod presented the city's current fire safety conditions and response initiatives. As the extreme heat continues to exacerbate the frequency of grass fires this month, BFP-Bacolod has reminded residents to contribute to prevention efforts by refraining from burning trash or dry leaves.
The bureau also advised smokers to ensure cigarettes are properly extinguished and urged the public to keep matches and lighters away from grassy areas. Additionally, clearing dry grass and debris around properties was recommended to prevent potential fire hazards.
