BI expels S. Korean fugitive wanted for sex crimes

MANILA: The Bureau of Immigration (BI) is set to deport a South Korean man wanted by authorities in Seoul for sex crimes. In a statement Tuesday, Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco said Go Taiyoung, 44, has been ordered expelled by the BI in 2021 when a summary deportation order was issued against him by the board of commissioners. The BI's fugitive search unit armed with a warrant of deportation issued by Tansingco arrested the foreigner on Diosdado Macapagal Blvd. in Parañaque City last Dec. 11. He is temporarily detained at the BI warden facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City while awaiting his flight to South Korea. BI-FSU chief Rendel Ryan Sy said Go is subject of an International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) red notice issued in 2020 which stemmed from a criminal case for indecent act by compulsion that was filed against him in South Korea. A warrant for his arrest was reportedly issued against the South Korean national by the Seubo district prosecutor's office in Seoul where t he female victim filed her complaint. The complainant alleged that Go forced her to commit an indecent act inside an internet café in Seoul where she worked on Jan. 25, 2019. She narrated that Go showed to her obscene materials saved on his mobile phone and that he even took out his private part and let it touch the victim's right arm. BI records show that Go last arrived in the country in November 2019. Meanwhile, the BI reported the repatriation of 27 Vietnamese nationals who have been victims of human trafficking. It said the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Task Force Against Trafficking (NAIA-TFAT) referred the victims to the IACAT-Tahanan ng Inyong Pag-asa Center, following their interception at NAIA Terminal 2 last Oct. 31. Tansingco noted that the victims were accompanied by a Chinese handler, two Filipino drivers, and a Filipino translator. The traffickers had reportedly intended to sell the victims to a company based in Cebu City. Of the 27 victims, 21 departed for Hanoi via a Cebu Pacific flight, while the remaining six departed for Ho Chi Minh City via a Philippine Airlines flight. In response to this incident, the BI has cancelled the working visas of the victims. Seven more Vietnamese nationals remain in the country awaiting their repatriation.
