Milaor: The Police Regional Office in Bicol (PRO-5) has arrested 31 suspects and seized around PHP21.2 million worth of illegal narcotics from June 9 to 15. In a report on Monday, the PRO-5 said those arrested include eight high-value individuals, 22 street-level suspects, and one newly identified drug personality.
According to Philippines News Agency, the 23 operations during the period resulted in the seizure of 1,718.428 grams of shabu, 80,101.50 grams of dried marijuana leaves, and 100 grams of hybrid marijuana known as 'kush.' One notable arrest involved the interception of 80 kilos of dried marijuana valued at PHP9.6 million, along with 100 grams of 'kush' in Milaor, Camarines Sur on Sunday.
In an interview, PRO-5 Director Brig. Gen. Andre Dizon stated that the arrests send a message of zero tolerance for drug-related crimes as the police and the community work together to dismantle drug networks in Bicol. He emphasized that the accomplishments are not solely due to the operation; they started with community reports. The engagement and participation of the community play a role in catching those involved in drugs.
Dizon highlighted the collaboration with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), intelligence community, and local government units as being crucial since the war on drugs began. He noted that the 80 kilos of marijuana could have posed a risk, especially to students. Dizon explained that this achievement benefits the parents, the community, and the government, especially in protecting the youth, whose futures are often jeopardized by drug use.
The PRO-5 plans to roll out anti-drug education and awareness campaigns in schools and communities throughout the region, aiming to further curb the distribution and use of illegal substances.
