Bicol: The opening of classes for Academic Year 2025-2026 in the Bicol Region was peaceful and orderly.
According to Philippines News Agency, PRO-5 Director Brig. Gen. Andre Dizon reported that 2,962 police officers were deployed to ensure safety in 3,562 public schools in the region. Dizon confirmed in an interview that no incidents were reported from municipal and city police stations regarding the first day of school, emphasizing the importance of police presence for the safety of students, teachers, and the general public.
Dizon highlighted the establishment of various public assistance desks to enable police officers to respond promptly to different scenarios. He assured that the deployment of officers, along with force multipliers, would continue to secure the safety of learners. A total of 464 Police Assistance Desks (PADs) were set up near school entrances, managed by 1,194 officers. Additionally, 804 officers were assigned to mobile patrols, while 964 served as foot patrollers.
Lawyer Carmen Taopo, a mother of two, shared her positive experience on the first day of classes, noting the presence of assistance desks and security personnel. She appreciated the orderly system implemented by the school, police, and community, which made her feel secure about her children's safety. Taopo expressed hope that such systems would continue to enhance security and prevent negative incidents.
Serena Sese, head of a remote school in Masbate province, expressed gratitude for the support from all stakeholders in maintaining a peaceful school opening. She acknowledged the assistance provided, from cleaning to security, which was crucial for distant schools.
Christene Villanueva, a teacher at Mabini Elementary School, reported a smooth opening day with 96 students admitted. She noted that barangay officials and police were on duty and provided contact numbers for any needed assistance.
