Manila: The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has announced an extension for the deadlines related to filing tax returns, paying taxes, and submitting necessary documents in regions affected by tropical cyclones Crising, Dante, and Emong, along with the enhanced southwest monsoon, known locally as 'habagat.'
According to Philippines News Agency, this relief measure applies to taxpayers in Metro Manila and the provinces of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, and Cagayan, which recently experienced the impact of these weather systems. Commissioner Romeo Lumagui Jr. emphasized the importance of adapting to the challenges posed by severe weather conditions, encouraging affected individuals to prioritize safety and family, while reassuring them of the extended deadline until July 31.
The extension also includes taxpayers in the provinces of Cagayan, Nueva Vizcaya, Batan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac, Zambales, Marinduque, Oriental and Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, Romblon, Albay, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Masbate, Sorsogon, Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental. The BIR stated that both taxpayers and BIR personnel under the affected Revenue District Offices and Authorized Agent Banks would be granted additional time to meet their tax obligations due to the disruptions caused by recent weather conditions.
Additionally, the BIR clarified that if the new deadline lands on a holiday or non-working day, the subsequent working day will be treated as the due date, providing further flexibility to those impacted by the storms.
